Information Technology Intern
Foothill Transit, the primary fixed-route transit provider in eastern Los Angeles County, California, is seeking a highly qualified individual for the position of Information Technology Intern. Foothill Transit’s mission is to be the premier public transit provider committed to safety, courtesy, quality, responsiveness, efficiency, and innovation. We are an award-winning bus system with a fleet of over 350 vehicles and ridership exceeding 12 million annually.
As part of Foothill Transit’s commitment to workforce development, Foothill Transit’s Internship Program was created to allow students to gain valuable skills and knowledge. In addition, the interns will support Foothill Transit achieving its mission. Interns will work on-site and have an average of 20 hours per week with pay starting from $17 to $20 per hour. This is up to a twelve-month position.
This position reports to the Director of Service Development & IT/ Information Technology Manager and will assist in the day-to-day information technology tasks of a wide variety of projects, across a number of functional areas. This position will work closely with multiple departments to provide support, collaboration, and learn from various aspects of the business. Responsibilities include and are not limited to the following:
- Hands-on experience with enterprise-level IT systems
- Exposure to cybersecurity, cloud services, and infrastructure management
- Mentorship from experienced IT professionals
- Opportunity to contribute to impactful projects
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist with troubleshooting hardware and software issues across the organization
- Support the setup and maintenance of workstations, laptops, and mobile devices
- Help manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls
- Participate in IT projects such as system upgrades, migrations, and network improvements
- Document technical procedures and create user-friendly guides
- Provide technical support to staff via email, phone, and in-person
- Monitor system performance and report anomalies
- Assist with imaging new desktop and laptop systems using standard enterprise tools (e.g., Microsoft Deployment Toolkit, SCCM, etc.)
- Configure user settings, applications, and operating systems according to company standards
- Install necessary drivers for printers, copiers, etc.
- Perform initial user logins and basic onboarding support
- Maintain accurate asset tracking and documentation of deployed systems
- Other duties as assigned
Skills Required:
- Basic understanding of operating systems (Windows, macOS)
- Familiarity with networking concepts and common IT tools
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Eagerness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standard procedures and documentation
- Good organizational, communication, and time management skills
- Ability to lift and move computer equipment (up to 25 lbs.)
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current enrollment in an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
- Must be a U.S. citizen or a legal resident and/or eligible to work in the U.S. as determined by U.S. Immigration Laws and the Department of Homeland Security
