TAP Card
A reusable, reloadable electronic card that can hold all your Foothill Transit passes and cash fares at once! Learn more. You can also use your phone or Apple Watch as a TAP card. Get more information about the TAP App here. You can load your TAP card with stored value and all the passes above through the app, online, at our Transit Stores or at a TAP vendor location. TAP cards are available for purchase for $2.
When you buy your fare online, with your app, or by calling TAP Customer Service, you may need to wait up to 1 hour before you can use it on the bus. If more than 30 days pass before you use the TAP card that holds your purchases, the fare will not be active, and you will not be able to use the fare you purchased. If this happens, call 866-TAPTOGO (866-827-8646) and ask them to reinstate your fare. The fare will then be available in 6 business days. If you buy your fare at a TAP vending machine or at or at TAP vendors including our Transit Stores, you can use it any time — no action within 30 days is required.
Day Pass
Allows you unlimited travel on local lines and the Silver Streak until 3 a.m. the following morning beginning when it is first tapped on the farebox. Only available for purchase with the TAP LA app or on board the bus. If you’re buying the pass on board the bus, follow these instructions.
-
Tell your bus operator you want to buy a Day Pass BEFORE you add money to the farebox or tap your card. This is really important, because if you tap your card first, the farebox will automatically deduct the price of a one-way fare from your TAP card.
-
Tap your TAP card on the blue circle when the bus operator indicates to. If you don’t have enough stored value on your card, you can pay the difference by inserting cash (no pennies) into the farebox. The operator can’t give you any change, so any additional cash will be loaded into the stored value on your card.
-
Once you insert the fare for the Day Pass, the farebox will “beep” and you will need to tap your TAP card again to load the pass to your card.
-
That’s it – your Day Pass is loaded. You can now ride any local line and the Silver Streak as often as you like until 3 a.m. the next day. You’ll need to tap your card every time you board the bus.
10-Trip Pass
Allows you 10 rides, no matter how long it takes you to use them up. Even better, it includes our free 2-hour transfers, so you can use it for up to 20 rides! It’s available on the TAP LA app or at a Transit Store.
31-Day Pass
Allows you unlimited travel for a 31-Day period beginning on the day it is first tapped on the farebox.
EZ Transit Pass
A monthly pass good for travel on 26 transit agencies throughout Los Angeles County, including Foothill Transit. Passes are available for purchase online at taptogo.net and at our Transit Stores beginning the 25th of the previous month through the 10th of the current month. For example, the June EZ transit pass is available from May 25 through June 10 at the Transit Stores.
Every TAP card can hold 7 fare items at a time. Stored value counts as a fare item. When you pay your fare, valid Foothill Transit passes will be used before stored value. Remember that stored value is needed to pay any transfer fees. Foothill Transit passes purchased online, through the TAP app, by phone, or at a store will be used in the order you purchased them: first in, first out. If you purchase a Day Pass on board the bus at the fare box, that pass will be activated for use immediately. Please note that regional passes or passes from other agencies may be handled differently. You can contact TAP or the issuing agency for more information.
Transfers
Free 2-Hour Foothill Transit to Foothill Transit local transfers – All you need to do is pay your fare with a TAP card, whether that’s a plastic card or a virtual card on the TAP LA app. Then, board another Foothill Transit bus within two hours of paying your fare, and tap your card. If it’s a local line (including the Silver Streak!), you won’t be charged a thing. If your second bus is Commuter Express (Lines 490, 493, 495, 498, 499, and 699), you’ll have to pay the difference between the fare you already paid and the full Commuter Express fare of $5.50.
