Firm Safety Standards

The safety of our customers and staff is always our top priority. We encourage everyone to follow all posted safety messages and our Code of Conduct so we can operate a safe, efficient, and effective public transit system for our community.

Operator De-Escalation Training

Foothill Transit bus operators go through extensive trainings to learn how to de-escalate conflicts and effectively handle emergencies. Operators report all incidents immediately so we can respond accordingly. Monthly trainings are led by our Safety and Security Team to keep safety top of mind.

On-Board Security Cameras

All Foothill Transit buses and facilities, including Transit Stores and Transit Centers, are equipped with electronic surveillance cameras used to view incidents and respond to complaints received from customers. Because your privacy is important to us, security camera footage is used for your safety only.

Trusted Safety and Security Team

Our dedicated Safety and Security Team members use their expertise to develop safety protocols and manage emergency trainings. This team is responsible for investigating and responding to all safety-related reports.

Helpful Watch App

The Foothill Transit Watch app is an easy way to report safety and security concerns whether you’re on the bus or waiting at a stop. Use the app to confidentially send us photos, text messages, short videos, and location information for our Safety and Security team to address. If you see any disruptive or suspicious behavior, unattended bags, assault, vandalism, or other safety concerns, please report it.

Leveled-Up Bus Stop Safety

We’ve installed security call boxes at many of our Transit Centers, and we help the cities we serve enhance their bus stops with safety elements like brighter lighting. Security call boxes connect you to the local police or Sheriff’s dispatch in case of emergency or incident. 

Litter-Free Buses

Our buses are disinfected and sanitized regularly to help prevent slips, falls, and the spreading of germs. We ask that customers follow our Code of Conduct and avoid eating, drinking, and leaving trash behind to ensure a safe and hygienic ride for everyone.
