Greening Big
WE’RE GOING BIG AND GOING GREEN!
Big news! We’ve just launched California’s largest fleet of hydrogen fuel cell buses!
Foothill Transit has been committed to clean and sustainable transportation since 2010, and we just got even greener. By using the power of modern science and technology, we’re excited to provide our community with clean, quiet, and safe rides on our new fleet of Xcelsior CHARGE H2™ buses.
Why is hydrogen such a big deal?
In a hydrogen fuel cell, hydrogen and oxygen are combined to generate electricity, heat, and water. When used in a Foothill Transit bus, this reaction provides the bus with battery power to move while emitting only water vapor! No carbon dioxide or other pollutants. Zero harmful emissions mean cleaner air and healthier neighborhoods. You’ll have a quieter ride, too, since hydrogen fuel cell buses generate very little engine and exhaust noise.
Hydrogen fuel is stored at the new Pomona Hydrogen Fueling Station in a 25,000-gallon tank – the largest hydrogen fuel tank used for transit in North America. Buses can be refueled in 7-10 minutes and can travel up to 300 miles on a single refueling!
Hydrogen fuel cell electric buses can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 135 tons per year compared to a diesel bus. That’s equivalent to planting 5,600 trees!
We want you to green big too!
