Is Your TAP Card Expiring?
It's easy to find out.
Did you know that TAP cards expire after fifteen years? Some are scheduled to expire this month. Once your card expires, it won't work to pay your fare, even if you have passes or cash loaded on it.
It's easy to find out when your card will expire. Register your card online. Then you can check the status of your TAP card, view recent transactions, and load stored value and passes. You can also call TAP directly at 1-866-TAP-TO-GO (827-8646). A TAP representative will be able to assist you over the phone.
Or stop by one of our Foothill Transit Stores, and one of our friendly Customer Service Representatives will be happy to check the expiration date of your TAP card and answer any other questions you may have.
If your TAP card is expiring, you don't have to lose your passes or cash. If your card is registered, you can transfer your bus passes and stored value to a new TAP card. You’ll need to have both your expiring card and a new TAP card handy to complete the process. Your new TAP card will last for fifteen more years! Please note that it may take up to 48 hours for the transfer to be completed.
When you've register your TAP card, you also have Balance Protection. In the event that your card is lost or stolen, you can report it. The unused balance will be returned to you on a new card for just $5. Or if you have another registered TAP card, you can simply transfer your balance.*
If you discounted TAP card, you already have TAP Balance Protection.
* TAP Regional Services will restore the value of what is on your card as of the date and time it was reported lost or stolen. This is subject to a three-day waiting period.
