Foothil Transit To Operate Discontinued Metro Lines 190, 192, And 270
Foothill Transit is expanding its service in the San Gabriel Valley.
(WEST COVINA, CA) June 8, 2016 – Foothill Transit will begin operating the discontinued LA Metro Lines 190, 194, and the northern segment of Line 270, between Monrovia and El Monte Station, beginning Sunday, June 26, 2016. Lines 190, 194, and 270 will continue to operate following the same routes and schedules that Metro currently operates, and an additional midnight trip will be added to Line 190. Customers may pay the local fare price of $1.25, a $0.50 savings from Metro’s local fare, or use any Foothill Transit local 31-day bus pass to ride the new lines. Foothill Transit will also honor all Metro fare media, including bus tokens, on Lines 190, 194, and 270 only. Metro fare media will be accepted during the first year of service, through June 26, 2017. Only Foothill Transit fare media will be accepted after June 26, 2017. Foothill Transit fare information may be found by visiting fares.
“We always want to better serve our customers by strengthening service across the San Gabriel and Pomona valleys,” said Carol Herrera, Chair of Foothill Transit’s Executive Board. “Adopting the discontinued Metro lines, accepting Metro’s fare media as a transitioning step, and maintaining the schedules ensures that the transition for Metro and Foothill Transit customers will be as smooth as possible.”
Lines 190 and 194 provide service between El Monte and Pomona – Line 190 makes stops through Baldwin Park and Covina via Ramona Boulevard and Grand Avenue, and Line 194 makes stops through Industry, La Puente and Walnut via Valley Boulevard. Both Lines 190 and 194 stop at local colleges like Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC) and California State Polytechnic University in Pomona. Students at Mt. SAC will now be able to use Class Pass on Lines 190 and 194; details are at foothilltransit.org/mtsac. Line 270 provides service to Monrovia, Irwindale and El Monte, making stops at the Monrovia Gold Line Station and El Monte Station.
“This service expansion is the largest our agency has experienced in the past 14 years,” said Doran Barnes, Executive Director of Foothill Transit. “What makes the transition even more exciting is that these lines provide important service to Cal Poly Pomona and Mt. San Antonio College. It’s a valuable opportunity to improve options for students and all our customers who receive discounted passes from us or participate in our Class Pass program.”
