Day of the Dead

Day of the Dead is almost here!

People throughout our community will pause on el día de los muertos to appreciate and respect loved ones who have died. The holiday is November 1 and 2. Here are some local events where you can experience the bright colors of papel picado and calaveras, the sound of mariachi music, the aroma of marigolds, and the sweet taste of champurrado. Take Foothill Transit to any of these celebrations.

Saturday, October 19, in El Monte

Celebrate Día de los muertos on Main St. in El Monte. Enjoy live music, dance performances, face painting, and more.

12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Saturday, October 5, in Los Angeles

The Olvera Street Muertos Artwalk brings together over 35 artists from the greater Los Angeles community selling original artwork, jewelry, accessories, clothing, face painting & more. The Muertos Artwalk is a hand-curated show designed to highlight the work of local artists.  Shop small and shop local by supporting these artists, and the merchants on Olvera Street. This family-friendly event is open to all and helps to create awareness about the traditional events hosted each year by the Olvera Street Merchants Association Foundation.

Saturday, October 19, through Saturday, November 2, in Los Angeles

Celebrate life and legacy with Gloria Molina Grand Park’s Downtown Día De Los Muertos. Highlights include a two-week exhibition of stunning altars created by local artists and community organizations, family friendly activities, a free film screening, and the first Downtown Día De Muertos parade.

Sunday, October 27, in Los Angeles

The dead come to life at LA Plaza for Día de los Muertos Family Day! Watch performances that pay homage to the dead through music and dance. Food and beverages will be available for sale.

Saturday, November 2, in Los Angeles

Celebrate Día de los Muertos at Olvera Street with family and friends. Experience the ultimate fun run with live music, performers, and post race festivities. Every finisher will receive a Los Muertos 5k T-Shirt and Day of the Dead Finisher Medal!
