Organization
 
Foothill Transit, created in 1988, is one of the largest and most successful transit competitive contracting efforts ever undertaken in the United States. Providing bus service to the San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys, the agency contracts out all services - from administration to bus driving and maintenance. Foothill Transit is governed by a five-person Executive Board.  

Four members are elected by the general zone membership, and the fifth member is appointed by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. General membership includes one city council member from each of 21 cities in the Foothill Transit Zone and three appointed representatives from the County of Los Angeles.

Unions:
Teamster Local 848 represents the operators working for First Transit in Pomona.
Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1756 represents the operators working for MV Transportation in Arcadia.

Fares and Funding:

  • Base cash fare: $1.00
  • Express cash fares: $2.00 - 3.65, depending on the service.
  • Transfers: $0.50 purchased at the time you pay your full fare.
  

Funding:
27% from farebox revenue.
73% from Los Angeles County Proposition A and C funds, California State Transportation Development Act (TDA) and State Transit Assistance (STA) funds
