How do I make sure that I'll get to where I am going, on time?

Use the Foothill Transit website! The website is your guide to all Foothill Transit routes and schedules, TransCenters and more. Each route page contains a detailed map of each route, as well as the times and locations of every stop each bus makes. To figure out your trip, simply use the list of all lines to find the route you need. Select the route you need by clicking on the route number along the left hand side of the page. Now select the schedule you need from the available options.

Timepoints are listed in dark blue along the top of the schedule and times are listed below; use the schedule scrolling buttons or the built-in browser scrollbars to view more stops and times if they are available.

Choose your exit stop from the row of time points listed in dark blue. Now, read down the page (scrolling as needed) under your stop to find the time that you need to arrive at your stop. Next, follow the row of times across the page until you reach the time listed under your "home," or boarding stop. Subtract your arrival time from your boarding time to learn how long your trip will take. Remember to use the right schedule for your trip — use the buttons for Weekday, Saturday, Sunday or Weekend schedules for each direction.

When you are away from your computer, or not connected to the Internet, you can find most of this information in the Foothill Transit Bus Book!

Where can I turn if you have questions regarding my trip, or for a personal trip itinerary?

Your best source for information is a Foothill Transit Store. Located in City of Industry, Claremont, Duarte, Pomona and West Covina, these stores are staffed with friendly Foothill Transit experts who can provide you with a detailed itinerary for your trip, including bus lines, transfer points, trip times, even landmarks to follow on your way. They can be reached at 1-800-RIDE INFO (1-800-743-3463). Just be sure to have a pencil and paper ready to write everything down! The Transit Stores also are great places to visit, providing information on the latest Foothill Transit news, upcoming community events, special Foothill Transit services and Metrocard and bus pass purchases.

What is the proper procedure for boarding and riding the bus?

The first thing you should do when you see your bus approaching is make sure that the number on the front matches the number of the route you need. When you are sure, raise your hand to signal the coach operator that you would like to get on board. If you are paying with cash, you must have the exact change to board the bus. When you board, simply drop your fare into the farebox next to the coach operator. As you all know, you should always stand behind the white line next to the coach operator to give him or her plenty of room to assist you. Should you have any questions, the coach operator will be glad to answer them — just make sure you ask when you enter or exit the bus, and not while he or she is driving.

When you sit down on the bus, make sure that you slide all of the way over and stow your belongings under the seat, so that other riders will have room to sit down. If no seats are available, please stand in the aisle and hold on to one of the handrails attached to the ceiling. When you reach your destination, be sure to exit through the back door of the bus.

How do I transfer from one Foothill Transit bus to another, or even to another system's buses? Is there a charge?

With your paid Foothill Transit fare, you purchase one transfer for $0.50. Discount transfers are available for $0.25 for eligible seniors and disabled customers. You may use transfers once within the printed time and date, regardless of direction. This allows more time to eat, shop or run errands while on your trip. Foothill Transit transfer cards are also accepted by Metro; please check their site for more information on their policies. For details on the Foothill Transit Transfer policy visit the transfer Policy page.

What special services does Foothill Transit offer to make riding the bus convenient and enjoyable for its customers?

The most obvious value is the Foothill Transit 31-Day rolling pass. Sold in all Foothill Transit Stores and at more than 50 retail outlets, the passes save you money by giving you a ticket to unlimited travel at a fixed price. Available in local, express, student, college, college express and senior/disabled versions, passes are valid for 31 days from their date of first use. To make things even easier, Foothill Transit also offers a Passes in the Mail program, allowing you to have a bus pass delivered to your door each month! And the Corporate Pass Sales program allows companies to sell passes at their office location.

The Metrocard is another excellent way to save money and make life a little easier. Much like a prepaid phone card, Metrocards can be purchased in any amount between $5 and $150. Simply run the card through the meter attached to the farebox each time you board the bus, and your discounted fare will automatically be deducted! Metrocards are valid for two years and, best of all, can be replaced with a valid receipt if they are lost or stolen.

Foothill Transit Express Routes are a commuter's dream, traveling to downtown Los Angeles and Pasadena via special freeway bus lanes to save you time. The buses also make only limited stops, so your trip is even faster! The easiest way to take advantage of this service is by using a 31-day rolling pass, but cash prices vary depending on the distance you travel, ranging from $2.75 to $3.35.
